Tour Description

Backpacking 101: Intro to Backpacking is a two-day course in stunning Lake Tahoe that teaches people of all ages—including families—how to safely navigate the varied terrain. In this course, adventure guides will breakdown everything beginners need to know about backpacking, from how to plan routes, navigate using maps, what gear you need and how to use it, packing techniques and more. The goal of this course is foster comfort in the wilderness and in backpacking so that folks can enjoy the sport confidently, and eventually venture out on their own.

This backpacking trip is oriented to those that have never backpacked before but are interested in gaining experience in the outdoors and learning how to plan and prepare for backpacking trips in the future. Beginning at the trailhead or Truckee office, proper packing techniques will be covered as the group splits up the gear and packs their backpack. After discussing the route and previewing maps, together the group will hike into a nearby lake to set up camp. Afternoon will be free to fish or explore. On day two, we’ll discuss the basics of orienteering with a map and compass before hiking out the way we came in.
