Tahoe Adventure Company has launched a new program for those who want to learn the ins and outs of backpacking in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and so they can confidently and safely backpack independently. Backpacking courses is an addition to Tahoe Adventure Company’s current backpacking offerings, which include guided two to eight day long excursions on the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range’s extensive trail system, available on a private booking basis.

Why backpack? Spending time in the great outdoors is healing, stress reducing and empowering. Backpacking allows adventurers to explore the solitudes of nature and is an amazing way to unplug from the demands of everyday life. Plus, it’s an activity that can be enjoyed by the whole family with proper planning. Kids are never disappointed when they build a ‘home’ in the woods and hike to a nearby lake or stream for water!

Every TAC-led backpacking trip includes knowledgeable guides to lead the way, logistics education, route planning, meals, camp equipment for food preparation, water filtration, and camp safety supplied such as stoves, water filters, bear canisters, cookware and tents. Permit fees are also included in the program cost.




Backpacking 101: Intro to Backpacking

Description: Backpacking 101: Intro to Backpacking is a two-day course in stunning Lake Tahoe that teaches people of all ages—including families—how to safely navigate the varied terrain. In this course, adventure guides will breakdown everything beginners need to know about backpacking, from how to plan routes, navigate using maps, what gear you need and how to use it, packing techniques and more. The goal of this course is foster comfort in the wilderness and in backpacking so that folks can enjoy the sport confidently, and eventually venture out on their own.

This backpacking trip is oriented to those that have never backpacked before but are interested in gaining experience in the outdoors and learning how to plan and prepare for backpacking trips in the future. Beginning at the trailhead or Truckee office, proper packing techniques will be covered as the group splits up the gear and packs their backpack. After discussing the route and previewing maps, together the group will hike into a nearby lake to set up camp. Afternoon will be free to fish or explore. On day two, we’ll discuss the basics of orienteering with a map and compass before hiking out the way we came in.

This trip requires a minimum of 3 people to run.

Backpacking Policies:
Payment: 50% deposit due upon approval for booking. Final balance is due 14 days prior to event. Price includes a 3% check discount. Please fax or mail this contract and check to the address below.

Reservation: A 50% deposit based on minimum numbers is required to guarantee a trip date. The client guarantees minimum numbers. Additional guests are welcome. Please notify us with final numbers no later than 7 days prior to the trip date, to assure equipment and guides. The remaining balance is due 14 days prior to the trip. Final billing (based on actual number of additional guests) will be sent upon notification.

Refund policy: A full refund, minus a $100 per person non-refundable fee, is available up to one month (30 days) before the trip. A partial refund of 50% of the total cost of the trip is available from 29 to 7 day prior to the trip. No refund will be granted for cancellation within 6 days of the trip or program. No refund for no shows.

Date change and cancellation policy: 20% surcharge (based on the total trip cost) will be due for date changes. TAC reserves the right to cancel, reschedule or adjust the trip due to dangerous weather conditions. If a trip must be cancelled due to weather, Tahoe Adventure Company will offer another suitable trip.

Location: Truckee, CA or the North Shore of Lake Tahoe.
Cost: $525 per person, 1 person minimum.
