When families step outside their normal routines and into a shared adventure, something special happens. Phones get put away, distractions fade, and everyone becomes more present. Team building experiences create the perfect environment for genuine bonding. Why Getting Outside Brings Families CloserDaily life is filled with schedules, chores, and responsibilities. It’s easy for family time to feel rushed or routine. But when families head outdoors, the pace naturally slows. People laugh more, talk more, and relax into the moment. With no pressure, everyone can simply enjoy being together. Outdoor or indoor team building experiences give families the chance to see one another in new roles. Kids step into leadership, parents become teammates, and everyone gets to contribute their own strengths. That dynamic shift sparks confidence and connection on both sides. Shared Adventures Build Lasting MemoriesWhen a family works together,... |
Stepping away from the daily grind and into the outdoors can transform the way a team works together. In the Truckee/Lake Tahoe region, surrounded by mountains, lakes, and fresh air, teams of any variety can experience challenges and adventures that foster trust, collaboration, and creativity in ways that being in the office simply cannot replicate. This kind of team bonding doesn’t just feel good; it has a measurable impact on efficiency and morale when employees return to their roles. Inspiration Beyond the OfficeTeam bonding in an outdoor or indoor setting gives colleagues a chance to recharge, connect, and see each other in new ways. Shared experiences, like navigating a trail, tackling group challenges, or exploring the lake, create a sense of accomplishment and excitement. When team members step outside their usual roles and collaborate in new contexts, they often return to work with renewed energy, fresh ideas, and stronger communication. Inspiration gained ... |
As summer fades and the first hints of winter settle over Lake Tahoe, the trails grow quieter, the air crisper, and the landscape transforms into a mosaic of golds and greens. This shoulder season offers a unique opportunity to practice Leave No Trace principles in new ways. The conditions change leaving trails often damp from rain or early frost, campsites see less use, and the weather can shift quickly. These factors call for a little extra awareness and adaptability to help protect Tahoe’s fragile ecosystems. One of the biggest adjustments during this season is trail impact. Wet or muddy trails are more vulnerable to erosion, so it’s especially important to stay on designated paths even if that means walking through a bit of mud. Cutting corners or creating side trails can damage vegetation and lead to long term trail widening. When camping, choose durable surfaces like gravel or established sites to avoid compacting soft, wet soil. Packing out all trash remains just as essential in t... |
As the days shorten and high summer warmth gives way to crisp air and cooling nights, the wildlife of the Lake Tahoe basin begins its seasonal transition. For those of us trackers, adventurers, and nature learners, this “shoulder” season offers an exceptional window. Not simply for witnessing change, but for tapping into the rhythms of adaptation, migration, and survival. One of the most noticeable changes is in the behavior of the region’s black bears. During this time, they enter hyperphagia, a stage of near constant eating as they prepare for winter. Bears can consume thousands of calories a day, foraging for nuts, seeds, berries, and roots to build the fat reserves they need to hibernate. Since Tahoe’s weather stays mild longer, some bears remain active well into the season and those that find human food sources may delay denning altogether. This means more movement, larger roaming areas, and increased activity in the evenings and at night. This brings great opportunities... |

As winter settles over Lake Tahoe, the forest transforms into a serene, snow-covered wonderland. While many flock to the slopes for skiing and snowboarding, there’s a different, quieter way to experience the magic of winter—through forest bathing while snowshoeing. Tahoe Adventure Company offers guided snowshoeing tours that allow you to immerse yourself in nature’s beauty, breathe in the crisp winter air, and experience the tranquility of the forest like never before. What is Forest Bathing? Despite its name, forest bathing doesn’t involve taking a literal bath in the woods. The term, or “shinrin-yoku,” originated in Japan and refers to the practice of slowing down and mindfully immersing yourself in nature to promote well-being. It’s about being present, using all your senses to take in the sights, sounds, and smells of the forest, and allowing nature to rejuvenate both your body and mind. Numerous studies have shown that s... |

Lake Tahoe, a place of pristine beauty and serene landscapes, holds within its heart a rich tapestry of history and culture. Their name is derived from the Washoe word 'waashiw,' which means "people from here" or "indigenous people." This name aptly encapsulates their deep connection to the land. The Washoe people are renowned for their sustainable and harmonious way of life, which has been intricately connected with the environment around Lake Tahoe for thousands of years. The lake, its waters, and the surrounding mountains were not just their home, but a source of spiritual connection, sustenance, and cultural significance. To mark the occasion we are giving away 20 free adventures – including everything from our exclusive Thunderbird Lodge tour to sunset snowshoe walks and SUP rentals. It all started back in 2003 when Kevin Hickey – a man with a van, a few kayaks and a vision, decided to launch his own Tahoe outfitting outfit. “I had been guiding a lot of youth education tours, living on the road, and I just wanted to put down some roots,” says Kevin. “In the beginning, I did everything. I answered calls, I guided the trip. But by the end of that first year I knew I was onto something.” Shortly after launching, Kevin brought h... |
Who knew snowshoeing was magical? My family found it so during a two-hour trek in Donner Memorial State Park. With the snow softly falling and our pockets lined with snacks, our Tahoe Adventure Company guide Jill took us out into the forest near Donner Lake. Yes, this is the area where the tragedy of the Donner Party unfolded but luckily there would be no repeat of a deadly pioneer tale today. Civilization is closer now than it was back then, and the folks at Tahoe Adventure Company know what they’re doing!

Snowshoeing Tahoe Typical après ski activities include shopping, eating, and drinking. What about trying something new that the whole family can enjoy? Snowshoeing Tahoe can be a great after skiing activity for you and the whole family. Spend the day gliding down the mountain on the slopes, getting that adrenaline pumping on the resort all day. Then get away from the crowded restaurants and packed bars and hop on a Sunset Snowshoe or Full Moon Snowshoe tour. Move through the snowy forest, relax, watch the sunset over the mountains, enjoy the last of the daylight and cap things off with hot drinks and cookies. Sounds like a great way to experience all Lake Tahoe has to offer.

The History of Team Building “I regard it as the foremost task of education to ensure survival of these qualities: an enterprising curiosity, an undefeatable spirit, tenacity in pursuit, readiness for sensible self-denial and above all, compassion” – Kurt Hahn
During the second World War, studies were done on what made certain ships of sailors most resilient, most likely to survive the torpedoes and attacks that threatened their teams. They found that physical fitness and youthfulness were less likely to predict survival than something more conceptual: experience in the field and team morale. Kurt Hahn and Lawrence Holt already knew this, but they were hired to train soldiers on teamwork, morale boosting, and playing to one another’s strengths. This was the conception of team building. After the war, they founded the first Outward Bound School to train British sailors through, rather than for, the hardships of the sea, not only t... |
